Vietnam: the girls of the south
Posted by: todd

many middle-aged middle-class sexually frustrated men travel southeast asia because the easy access to attractive teen action makes them feel like some sort of omniPotent international playboys instead of big hard-up losers. though we regard them contemptuously, (ours is not a moral objection...it's just gross and lame. you'd have to see it) hopefully our tribute to the style and grace of the viet-babes of the south is not entirely tasteless. enough disclaimer. "Read More" if you are sophisticated or unsophisticated enough to appreciate. |

The traditional Au Dai ("OW-DIE") disappeared from vietnamese fashion after the communist victory of 1975. it was not until the early 1990's when they were featured in a beauty pageant that they made a big comeback. Now, the majority of young women in the south wear them around town, to school, to work.

the once ubiquitous conical hats are still worn by many, though expect them to continue to fade away with the rapid economic and social changes occurring in the country

always peddling these hurky single-speed chinese bikes with a slow easy grace

that same feminine poise is not solely dominion of the young

Great images! I've got to show my mother these pictures - all these babes - her countrywomen - with their au dais on. It would make her proud... btw - Why are they all covered up in terrorist chic?

there was some attempt at explanation offered in the saigon images update (something about white = beautiful) the women dont go anywhere under the sun (even laboring in the rice paddies) without full sun-defeating gear. they don't have SPF50 or any sunscreen here - though if they did they would probably just use both. they want to maintain as pale of skin as possible. telling a viet-babe that she has a 'great tan' would be an insult. The masks are common throughout SEA there were even some in India/Pak - all the diesel vehicles produce some seriously particulate dense emissions. adam and i wear our masks when on the road - but thats partly because we acquired some evil looking ones in bkk. -t
