India: backlogged
Posted by: todd
|
the first of pictures culled from our past two weeks of travelling.
i would like to take this opportunity to mention that i have again missed the nightlife of Bombay, probably the only urban center in this nation with evening entertainment
having made it back across the border from pakistan, we found ourselves again at the sikh stronghold and capital of the Punjab: Amritsar.

after six weeks of pak/afghanistan, young Indian women such as these seemed entirely licentious and wantonly depraved. i almost berated them myself for their shamelessness

be very afraid - K3G was the bollywood summer blockbuster and these faces leer from every sign, commercial and product in india. allah be merciful

At the "Parantha Hut" were able to eat our first real meal in over a month. though many of the actual differences between india and pakistan are largely subtle, to somebody on a veg diet they are very different places.
here adam caught a rare image of the indian variety of transvestitus. not quite as good looking as the thai boys, they all act just like the ones back home.

if you ever find yourself wondering what the extra knob does, be prepared for excitement.

Fundamental to Sikhs is the concept of khalsa, or belief in a chosen race of soldier-saints who abide by strict codes of moral conduct (abstaining from alcohol, tobacco and drugs) and engage in a crusade for dharmayudha (righteousness). There are five kakkars (emblems) denoting the Khalsa brotherhood; kesh (the unshaven beard and uncut hair that symbolizes saintliness); kangha (comb to maintain the the ritually uncut hair); kirpan (sabre or sword that symbolizes power and dignity); karra (steel bangle usually worn over on the right wrist which symbolizes fearlessness and strength); and kaccha (underwear). Conveniently, all these things are sold around the temple.
