MediaSuck: How Many Jubilant Iraqis does it Take to Declare Victory?
Posted by: randy on Friday, April 11, 2003 - 12:25 AM
Spoutin' Off Less than 100, or so it would seem. The now familiar images of The Fall of the Baghdad Statue have brought spasms of pleasure to all who knew this war to be just and good...why the Iraqis were practically begging us to bomb them and conquer their country so that we could liberate them into a blissful world of democracy and consumerism.

As it turns out, Bush, Cheney and Rumsfeld's collective glee was probably more because their entirely manufactured photo-op revolution was portrayed as a spontaneous grassroots event in all of the American media. For the straight dope, click on this link. The Iraqi military may have mostly collapsed, but where are the hugs? I remember being promised lots of hugs.

Operation Enduring Flow Our old friend and delusional ego-maniac jerry rivers (aka “Geraldo”) is eating pie again

"MSNBC is so pathetic a cable news network that they have to do anything they can to attract attention," Rivera said. "You can rest assured that whatever they're saying is a pack of lies."

A U.S. Central Command official said, "He is being pulled. He just doesn't know it yet. He has not gotten the word."

although our hearts are still aflutter from the 'thumbs up' he gave us at tora bora, I’m amazed he could get a job after making shit up at tora bora last year

[Note CNN’s generous application of the ‘blur tool’ to obfuscate the SECRET WAR PLANS carefully laid out in the sand]

in other news, peter arnett gets fired (less than 24 hours after being fully supported) by NBC for doing his job and offering some of the actual analysis missing from his colleagues

NBC News issued a statement supporting Arnett, saying that Arnett gave the interview to Iraqi TV as a "professional courtesy" and that his remarks "were analytical in nature and were not intended to be anything more."

Site Announcements: the slippery slope
Posted by: todd on Monday, March 24, 2003 - 05:29 AM
Mission Update missionless update

This site was created with the intention of disseminating original content derived from direct first-hand experience. We have received inquiries asking why we weren't discussing the latest and greatest of human potlatches in Iraq, but this site was never intended to be a soapbox for random personal opinions.

Adam's domestication in the PacificNW, and my commitment to finishing an academic degree (a necessary evil if i'm going to rub elbows with geraldo) has precluded any FLM operations at this time.

A lack of balance in the voices speaking prompts us to respond. Though small and feeble, though unsanctified by media approval, and lacking the street cred of corporate sponsorship - there are things that must be said.

[The Iraq related posts have been moved here and here.]

More, yo.

Mission Update non sequitur - emerald isle
after a whirlwind tour of the emerald isle that offered little downtime for reflection or analysis, what is there to say about ireland?

this seemed a good day to post this

(lots of verdant images and a refreshing lack of Terrifying brownskins)

back in the States now...devising an exit strategy in light of the collective insanity that only seems to be growing.

Mission Update i am loathe to post a content-less dispatch...why waste bandwidth with "sorry nothing to see here"

there WILL soon be more video logs and posts from tora bora, pakistan, india and elsewhere...

currently distracted with refamiliarizing myself with everything i find contemptuous about the [questionably] higher education system...

Vietnam: something scenic - halong bay
Posted by: todd on Wednesday, August 21, 2002 - 04:41 AM
Mission Update Halong Bay - tour of duty

FLM mission update in the classic sense.

if there was anything resembling a narrative at one point, this would be the penultimate chapter.

i think i've made my feelings clear about tours. groups, buses, guides and blue umbrellas. uniforms, preferred by the asian variety of tourist, seem appropriate under the circumstances. foreign invaders wielding a destructive power on par with, yet more subtle, than any stratofortress.

Announcements
♠ this person bothered to actually ask us some questions before generating fiction to support the story they wanted to write. it seems such stringent journalistic standards are only exercised for friends.

♠ Not many updates? Truth be told...we're stalling. In the process of moving the server out of töd's closet to "professional" web-hosting. not quite as shoestring do-it-yourself as we prefer, but it should allow us the bandwidth to make some video available for your viewing pleasure...

Soon.

Vietnam: Hanoi - the lenin railslide
Posted by: todd on Monday, June 03, 2002 - 11:40 PM
Mission Update Hanoi - star of the north

Restoring the timeline...

The goal of our northern oddyssey and capital of unified Viet Nam, Hanoi. As typically the case, we rolled into this citadel of Communist power without any idea of what to expect, no clue what we would find in this the dark heart of the north.
